LYNNE TOBIN
Lynne Tobin is a contemporary mixed-media artist known for her minimalist ink drawings that blur the line between gesture and meditation. Working with thread, string, and ink, she creates immersive compositions that explore spatial tension and presence. Her Line Studies series—during the 60th Venice Biennale—challenges the boundaries of drawing, transforming simple materials into contemplative forms that engage both the eye and the spirit.
“Each Line is now the actual experience with its own innate history. It does not illustrate – it is the sensation of its own realization.”

10 Shows to See in Upstate New York This August
by Taliesin Thomas
Lynne Tobin knows that the simple line is the ultimate muse. Her solo show is a celebration of the indomitable black line: going here, going there, going everywhere as guided by Tobin’s careful directions and discoveries. In “Threads #7” (2023), layers of them (one on top of the other) give the impression of woven fabric, while “Line Drama” (2018) is a long vertical drawing of five frantic black lines that start on the wall and run down to the floor in a beautiful and messy calligraphic jumble. In “Untitled” (2017), a meditative wave coming in from the right fades out into broken streaks of black stardust to the left.

At Upstate Art Weekend, Cars and Barns Are Galleries
During the seventh annual event, hundreds of artists proved that art has never been confined to "white cube" galleries.
by Taliesin Thomas
Jen Dragon similarly sees shows outside of the so-called "white cube" of gallery spaces as the right place to exercise new ideas and ways of presenting art. She curated VERTEX / Geometry of Edges at the Richards Gallery at Opus 40 in Saugerties. Opus 40 is one of the most incredible gems to experience anywhere in New York, consisting of a six-and-a-half-acre earthwork made of finely fitted bluestone in an abandoned quarry as created by the late visionary artist and Bard College professor Harvey Fite. When I visited on Friday, Dragon was overseeing the final touches of this gorgeous little group show including angular works by Osi Audu, Lynne Tobin, and Kati Vilim, among others.
